Hyundai Ioniq 6 Ultimate Review: A Blend of Luxury and Performance
As an electric vehicle enthusiast, I was eager to experience the Hyundai Ioniq 6 Ultimate trim with its impressive 77.4kWh battery. From the moment I stepped inside, I was greeted by a cabin that feels remarkably luxurious and spacious. The black leather interior adds a touch of elegance, making it a comfortable environment for both drivers and passengers. However, it’s hard to overlook the presence of some cheap, scratchy plastics, which is disappointing, especially given the price tag of over £50,000.
On the road, the Ioniq 6 Ultimate truly shines. Despite a modest 0-60 mph time of 7.4 seconds, the driving experience is exhilarating. It feels quicker than the numbers suggest, thanks in large part to the responsive steering and overall dynamics that make for an exceptional ride. However, I do wish the driver’s seat could be adjusted a bit lower and that there was more range of movement in the steering wheel position for optimal comfort.
In terms of range, my real-world experience has been quite satisfactory, averaging between 250-320 miles. With more economical driving, I’m confident I could easily push that number above 320 miles, which is in line with what other UK drivers have reported. I average around 3.5 kWh/mile, which I find acceptable for my driving needs.
However, the tech and infotainment system in the Ioniq 6 leaves much to be desired. The system is slow and laggy, and I hope Hyundai can address these issues with an over-the-air update. The absence of wireless Apple CarPlay is puzzling, and the lack of integrated apps like Spotify and YouTube is a significant drawback, especially when compared to competitors like Tesla. The standout feature for me is the wired Apple CarPlay, but overall, Hyundai has room for improvement in their tech offerings.
When it comes to build quality, the Ioniq 6 meets my expectations. It feels solid, with no panel gaps or paint defects, which gives me confidence in the vehicle’s durability.
In summary, I would recommend the Hyundai Ioniq 6 Ultimate for those who prioritise a smooth, quiet driving experience and are okay with using Apple CarPlay without integrated streaming services. If Hyundai can enhance their tech and customer service, they could have a real contender in the EV market. The Ioniq 6 is definitely a head-turner, and while some may view its unique design with skepticism, many will admire it for standing out among the sea of electric vehicles on the road today.
