Hyundai Motor made a major announcement during its 2024 CEO Investor Day, unveiling a next-generation IT system and user interface (UI) powered by Android Automotive. This cutting-edge infotainment system will debut in the Genesis GV90, the flagship luxury SUV, set to launch in 2026.
A New Era of In-Car Entertainment
Hyundai’s upcoming infotainment system, developed in partnership with Google, promises to deliver a seamless and intuitive experience similar to using a high-end smartphone or tablet. Running on the Android Automotive Operating System (AAOS), this new platform will allow for greater personalization and a more responsive interface, aimed at enhancing the driving experience for both drivers and passengers.
“Hyundai is committed to pushing the boundaries of automotive technology,” said a company spokesperson. “Our new infotainment system represents a significant leap forward in how drivers and passengers interact with their vehicles. With Android Automotive, we are not only improving functionality but also unlocking access to a vast ecosystem of apps and services.”
Genesis GV90: Leading the Way
The highly anticipated Genesis GV90 will be the first model to feature this innovative system. Competing with premium electric SUVs like Tesla’s Model X, the GV90 will feature a large centre touchscreen, serving as the command hub for nearly all vehicle functions, from navigation and media to climate control.
Hyundai has emphasised creating a user-friendly design that balances aesthetics and practicality, ensuring the large screen is not overwhelming. The interface will be highly customisable, offering multiple layout options, voice commands, and haptic feedback, all designed to keep the driver focused while providing a visually appealing experience.
Beyond the Touchscreen: A Fully Connected Ecosystem
In addition to its large screen, the GV90 will feature full integration with AI-connected services and Google apps, allowing users to control smart home devices, access personalised content, and receive real-time updates on traffic and weather. The Android Automotive platform also supports over-the-air (OTA) updates, ensuring that the system remains up-to-date with the latest features and improvements.
Hyundai aims to enhance third-party app compatibility, making it easier for developers to create and offer apps specifically tailored for the in-car experience.
Setting a New Standard in Luxury EVs
The introduction of this next-gen infotainment system in the Genesis GV90 signals Hyundai’s ambition to lead the luxury and electric vehicle markets. By bringing the power of Android Automotive to its flagship model, Hyundai is setting a new benchmark for in-car technology and connectivity, challenging established players like Tesla.
With this bold step, Hyundai is positioning the GV90 as a frontrunner in the premium EV space, combining luxury with cutting-edge tech to deliver an unparalleled driving experience.
